Von Doughnuts on Danforth

The doughnut in this pic is not just any doughnut, it's a Caramel Salt N' Pepa doughnut from Von Doughnuts. It is absolutely delish! I discovered Von one evening strolling along the Danforth with my family after dinner. As soon as we saw the big orange sign and my daughter's favorite word "Doughnuts", we had to check it out.

Doughnut Hole

I'm hooked now but not just because of the doughnuts. I absolutely love the vibe of this place. It's just chill. The people who work there make it even better. My favorite is Nora, we bonded over doughnuts. Well, actually, she's the only Von employee I have met.  As you can see in the pick below, by the time we left, Nora was blowing good-bye kisses. We love her and we'll be back.

Nora at Von Doughnuts

We dropped in a little too close to closing time so we only had the Caramel Salt N' Pepa and a few lightly sugared doughnut holes to choose from. But Miss Nora made sure we knew what doughnuts to come back for by reading off the list of flavors and animatedly describing what each one tastes like.

The doughnuts are a little pricey but the quality is supreme. Von boasts that their "products contain only the best and freshest ingredients". Their doughnuts are "hand made" and all "icing, fillings, custards and jams are made from scratch". They also offer made-to-order services. Great idea for party. Von's site also states that their doughnuts are trans-fat-free, however, I have no idea how that's possible considering how good they taste. Who in their right mind is going to eat a doughnut and be concerned about its fat content?

I'd have to say that the two Von doughnuts I've tried are among the best I've ever tried. The Caramel Salt N' Pepa was just the right mix of salty-sweet with a bit of spicy kick and the doughnut itself was soft and delicious. I have to give them nuff respect on their doughnut holes too. Simple but very yummy with a nice cup of hot coffee or tea.

I have been thinking about Von since the day I found it and I can't wait to get back there. The next two (yes, I said 2) I plan to try are the Crème Brûlée that supposed to taste like it's name and the Pucker Up Sucker that supposed to taste like lemon meringue pie. Damn, I may just have to drop by today.

Until next time. Hugs to all.

Find a Warm Coat or Parka for Winter in Toronto

Winter's back and I noticed there's been a lot of traffic to my Parkas for 2015 Winter in Toronto post so I know some of you are feeling the cold. Winters in Toronto can be a mix of mild to cold weather with many moments of slushy wetness to icy fall-on-your-butt kind of conditions.

My Secret? Olay Regenerist Multi-Sculpting Cream

I've always looked pretty young for my age but soon after my 40th birthday, I noticed that my skin was changing. I was losing my glow. I was dealing with little random dry patches, a very oily T-zone and mini acne breakouts that I hadn't seen since my teens. I couldn't seem to link these new symptoms to a change in my diet or a new product I was using. Then it hit me, the change my skin was going through was very normal for women over 40.

A lot of women in their 40's experience dryness, an oilier T-zone, and a return of acne. These symptoms are usually the effect of hormonal changes related to premenopause and menopause. Stress and having a sweet tooth can help to bring on adult acne too. I've been using Olay's Regenerist Multi-Sculpting Cream for a while and it works for me. It gives my skin just the right amount of hydration and has reduced the acne breakouts to a minimum. It's exactly what my skin needs and has become a regular item in my stash of skin …
